Case Studies

Situation

Client is an artist and wants to do what she loves – make art. She is struggling to find a way to make money with her art. She has tried many things but nothing has worked out.

What did we do?

We envisioned a future where she was doing her art in a profitable way with clients and colleagues. She produced a portfolio of work and practiced connecting with potential customers

What happened

Then two years later I received this: “Hello! We haven’t spoken in years, but now is the perfect time for me to tell you how much you helped me when you coached me years ago. It took a while for all to come to fruition with my plans to be a lettering and type designer, but here is a link to show the fruits of my labor: http://new.myfonts.com/ Thank you David! Everything we talked about has come true.  (Accountant transitioned to a profession in art.)

Situation

Client wants to change careers from an elementary school teacher to a job in industry that pays better and uses her skills. Years in the classroom had left this teacher frustrated, discouraged and a little frightened. “I don’t know what I can do outside of teaching, but I want to find something I can do and will enjoy” She calls for help.

What did we do?

We focused on career direction, planning and transferable skills. Made a detailed listing of accomplishments, trained in how to share transferable skills and re-wrote the resume.

What happened

I received an e-mail that said “I wanted to share some great news with you. I landed a product marketing position at Starbucks. I start in three weeks. Thank you so much for all your guidance and advice. I could not have persevered without your support and knowledge and career coaching”

Situation

Client left a career in the military after 20 years flying jets and landed in a desk job in an engineering firm. “I can’t see myself doing this for the rest of my life”, he told me. “I really want to fly again but the airlines aren’t even hiring right now”. He calls for help.

What did we do?

We focused on the ideal position which was a longshot: flying corporate jets. Updates were done to his resume. We practiced networking and interviewing. We did market research but mostly focused on the importance of networking.

What happened

Then I received this e-mail: “Hi Dave – I have thought often of our conversations several months ago, and how you suggested corporate flying and helped me network with several industry experts. Your crystal ball is pretty-damn good! Thanks to your training and coaching I am flying corporate jets now.  I thought this would be impossible just a few months ago. Thank you so much!!!”

Situation

Client lost his job because he was texting while driving the company car. Single dad with two kids, working as an Uber driver at night to pay the rent, he calls for help, desperate to land a sales job in a Fortune 500 company near to where he lives.

What did we do?

We reviewed his background and pulled out every key accomplishment and every piece of evidence that supported his skills. We aligned accomplishments with job descriptions and lined up item by item. We researched jobs until we found perfect matches with great openings. We practiced interviewing, questioning and updated the resume and linkedin site.

What happened

Then I received this e-mail: “David I got hired. I am a sales executive working for a leading company in my state and making over 100,000 in base pay. And you said it would take three months, and that my friend is exactly what it took. I am going in 29 different directions right now and love it. I could not have done this without your coaching – Thank you Mr. Dave”.

Situation

Client just graduated with a Ph.D. in BioInformatics and moved to Seattle with a new family looking for a job in a biotech firm. After several false starts, he calls for help.

What did we do?

We updated career goals and LinkedIn site. Made sure resume was in CV format and visible. Created a list of the best jobs in biotech per his criteria in Seattle. Looked for contacts and trained hard on interviewing and networking skills.

What happened

Then I receive this: “Dave – I got the job I was hoping for. Your contacts and suggestions about how to position my strengths was spot on. Thank you so much and let’s stay in touch.”

Situation

Client is stuck in her job.  She is an experienced professional in tech, but feeling overlooked she left her job to find something better. After getting rejected several times for jobs she felt well qualified for was beginning to wonder if she had made a mistake quitting her job.  She started to get depressed and called for help.

What did we do?

We made her career goals clear and motivational. Put together a job finding strategy for a project manager role that was easy to implement. Updated the resume and LinkedIn site. Focused on a few great job opportunities and aligned her accomplishments with job requirements.

What happened

Then I received this e-mail: “Well, I’ve been in the new job for a month today – and found out yesterday I’m getting a promotion to Project Manager! I just wanted to let you know – again, your advice during my period of unemployment, and your encouragement and acknowledgment of my skills really stayed with me and helped me ‘shine’ in my new job. I thought you should know that your work made a big difference in my life! Mid-level professional“
